The Reason We Choose to Home School – Part 2

Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:5(ESV) that "We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete".

It doesn't take a very strong, nor a compelling argument for most Christians to agree that our public schools have unfortunately become a haven for the "filthy conversation of the wicked" as well as a platform to teach philosophy that is against "the knowledge of God". This does not mean that Christian schools always produce better environments either. Unfortunately, due to circumstances that can be created beyond the administrators and educators control, the environment can become one that is far less conducive to Christian character development than what is intended. Many homeschooling parents are guilty of overprotecting their children so much that when they are older they are unable to stand strong against the rude awakening of the world outside of the home.

However, I would argue that just because there are some Christian schools and some homeschoolers who educate and prepare children poorly does not mean we are justified in handing our children and their precious hearts and minds over for a six hours a day, thirty hours a week dose of exposure to those who do not possess a solid Christian and Apostolic world view.

No matter how strong our children are, their souls will be vexed (worn down, or distressed) from day to day by the things they see and the things they hear (2 Peter 2:7,8).

There was a very good and very strong reason that God did not allow Israel to send their children to the Canaanite, Moabite and Egyptian schools.

Read the book of Deuteronomy, I think you might find the reason!

Thanks for reading again today!

To be continued when more time allots…….
